There is a backdoor password built-in to the BIOS by the manufacture. It is hidden, so we can't see it normally, but we can try to find it out on the master password site. On the password text box try with three passwords, if all these three passwords are incorrect, you will be blocked with the screen "System Disabled".

And you will get a code to get the backdoor password. Write this code down. Enter the code you get on the System Disable screen and click on Get password. You will get a list of passwords. Go to your laptop, restart it and press F1 key to boot to the BIOS entry screen again, and then try with the list of passwords one by one. But you only be able to enter three incorrect passwords before your system is locked.

So clearly this is concerning, since I have no ideas regarding what the BIOS is set at now, and a single misstep might brick this laptop. I have not changed the BIOS at all since I purchased this laptop and have allowed all of the usual default Windows upgrades to occur without any changes from me at all.

That is, I have not interfered with any Windows automatic upgrades at all, everything is "standard". Is anyone experienced with this situation, and what action did you take? Did you do the update and did this cause any problems? Should I create a "restore point" first and does this "recovery" utility save the current BIOS settings and restore them correctly? My goal was to have a script that could change or clear existing passwords and could display a prompt to the screen when manual intervention was required. The script can be downloaded from my GitHub. This means that we can use PowerShell to directly view and edit BIOS settings without the need for a vendor specific program. This script deals specifically with Lenovo BIOS passwords, so in this post, I will only be discussing the classes related to password management.

The first thing that needs to be done is to determine what passwords are currently configured.

lenovo bios

These two lines will return a number 0 — 7 that tells us what passwords are currently set. For reference, this is what each value means:. The next step is to action on this data and either change or clear the BIOS password. These two lines will attempt to change the supervisor password from OldPassword to NewPassword.

The type of password being modified is determined by the first value inside the double quotes, in this case pap, which is the supervisor password. For reference, here are the values for the other password types:. For more detailed information on the Lenovo WMI interface, as well as a list of supported hardware models, refer to the official documentation. This script takes the basic commands we just looked at and adds logic to allow for a more automated password management process.

The script accepts parameters that tell it which actions to perform. By default, if the script fails to perform any of these actions, it will display a message box on the screen and exit with an error code. This can be useful in a task sequence scenario where you may not want a system to continue with the task sequence if the BIOS password is not set correctly.

However, if you want the script to be completely silent, there are a few parameters that can be set.

Как зайти в биос на ноутбуке lenovo ideapad 310

When the script runs, it will write to a log file. By default, this log file will be named Manage-LenovoBiosPasswords. Blank Passwords The first limitation is actually imposed by Lenovo for security reasons. The first time a BIOS password is set, it must be set manually. It is not possible to programmatically set a BIOS password when one does not already exist. The script does have logic to detect for this scenario, and will throw an error and prompt the user if that is the case.

Lenovo has recently added a System Deployment Boot Mode to newer hardware models that allows setting a password. I will look into this more in the future to see if it can be incorporated into the script.

Password Lockout The second limitation is also imposed by Lenovo for security reasons.

How to Get Into Lenovo BIOS

If enough wrong password attempts are made, the system will lock and require a reboot to continue attempting passwords. Even though the lockout number is 3 or 6, depending on hardware model, the way this script is written, you can only specify either 2 or 5 old passwords in the old password parameters. This is because the script first tests if the password is already set to the value passed in the new password parameters, which eats up 1 of those lockout attempts if incorrect.

For example, if the script is instructed to change a supervisor password, the first thing it does, is test the current password against the value passed in the SupervisorPassword parameter. This means that we can use PowerShell to directly view and edit BIOS settings without the need for a vendor specific program.

This script uses 5 of the Lenovo provided WMI classes. This class is used to return a list of the configurable BIOS settings as well as their current values. This class contains a method called SetBiosSetting which is used to modify bios setting values.

This class is used to query the current status of the BIOS passwords. For more detailed information on the Lenovo WMI interface, as well as a list of supported hardware models, refer to the official documentation.

This script takes the basic commands and adds logic to allow for a more automated settings management process. The script has four parameters. When using the script to set settings, the list of settings can either be specified in the script itself or in a CSV file. When the script runs, it will write to a log file. By default, this log file will be named Manage-LenovoBiosSettings. The script has logic built-in to detect if settings were already set correctly, were successfully set, failed to set, or were not found on the device.

The script will output these counts to the screen at the end. More detailed information about the settings will be written to the log file.

Lenovo BIOS setting names differ between hardware models. Specifically, laptops and desktops seem to have different setting names. This means that there can be multiple different ways to specify the same setting across multiple hardware models. I have included a few example settings files in my GitHub. One current limitation of the script has to do with the password check functionality.

Running this password check only works one time per reboot, this means that if you need to run the script multiple times, you will need to have a reboot between each run of the script, or you will need to disable the password check portion of the script.

The script can be run as a standalone script in Windows, or as a part of a Configuration Manager task sequence. Here is an example of calling the script during a task sequence.

In this example the settings are specified in the body of the script, so the script can be stored directly in the task sequence step. In this second example, the script is being called from a package and the settings are being supplied from a CSV file. Skip to content This post was updated on February 21st, Reboot and try again For more detailed information on the Lenovo WMI interface, as well as a list of supported hardware models, refer to the official documentation.

The settings will be displayed to the screen by default. Settings can be specified either in the body of the script or from a CSV file. If used with the SetSettings switch, this acts as the location where the script will read BIOS settings to be set from. Using this switch with the SetSettings switch will also cause the script to ignore any settings specified in the body of the script. Examples The script can be run as a standalone script in Windows, or as a part of a Configuration Manager task sequence.

Here are a few examples of calling the script from a PowerShell prompt. Thanks for taking the trouble to reply Ishaan, take your point about the payment, but it wouldn't be a problem if I knew it would work. Sorry if this is a silly question but as I am finding it impossible to do anything with the BIOS, is it on its own removable plug in chip, and if so, can I purchase a replacement chip with the BIOS already programmed in?

Am still looking for a solution.
